Green Moong Dal Recipe

Green moong dal is a healthy and nutritious main course recipe rich in fibre and protein.

Green moong dal is an easy to make main course recipe ideally to be had with roti, phulka, plain rice or zeera rice.

This green moong dal recipe is made in basic onion tomato gravy and some basic Indian spices. For a variation, you can also use sprouted moong as well.

Green Moong Daal

Ingredients


  • 1/2 cup green moong dal, washed and soaked for 1 hour
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 green chilli chopped
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 medium sized chopped onion
  • 1 small chopped tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt, as required
  • coriander leaves for garnishing



Directions for making green moong dal recipe


1. Discard the water from the soaked dal and put it in the pressure cooker. Add water and pressure cook on high for 1 whistle. Switch off the flame and let the pressure gets released by itself.

2. Heat oil in a pan and splutter the cumin seeds. Add green chilli and grated ginger, saute for few seconds.

3. Add onions and fry till transparent.

4. Add tomato, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric and salt. Cook till tomatoes are fully mashed up and oil separates.

5. Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add 1 cup of water and simmer for 5-6 minutes. You can adjust the consistency by adding a little more or less water, as per your preference.

6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
