Fish Pakora

Fish pakora is usually made with any white boneless fish variety cut into chunks.

For making fish pakoras tender pieces of fish is marinated twice - first with salt, lemon juice, ginger garlic paste and green chillies for absorbing the flavor and secondly it is marinated in a spicy gram flour batter to give it a thin coating. This results in a crispy and mouth watering fish delicacy.

Fish pakoras can be enjoyed with any dip of your choice both as starter as well as for your evening snacks. Fish pakoras can also be used as the main ingredient for making your rolls or wraps along with sauces and salads.

I've also got couple of other fish recipes like fish biryani, fish tikkafish fry and many more on this blog, do check out them too.

Author: Razina | Cuisine: Indian | Recipe Type: Snacks
Prep Time: 45 minutes | Cook Time: 20 minutes | Yield: 3-4 servings

Ingredients

  • 10-12 fish fillet pieces, I used basa fish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 2-3 green chillies, crushed
  • salt as required
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 2 tablespoon gram flour or besan
  • 1/2 beaten egg
  • oil for deep frying

Directions for making fish pakora recipe

1. Marinate the fish fillet with lemon juice, ginger garlic paste, crushed green chillis and salt. Keep aside for 30 minutes.

2. In a mixing bowl add gram flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and carom seeds. Add little water to make a thick batter. Fold the marinated fish in this batter and keep aside for another 15 minutes.

3. Heat oil in a kadhai to deep fry the fish. To check if the oil is hot enough, drop 1/4 teaspoon of batter, the oil will sizzle and the batter will quickly rise to the top.

4. Drop the marinated fish pieces, few at a time and fry till golden and crisp on all sides. Do not overcrowd the kadhai or else the pakoras will stick to each other.

5. Remove and place on an absorbent paper to drain the excess oil.

6. Serve hot with your favourite dip!
