Homemade Applesauce

Applesauce is an easy to make and healthy recipe. I am a big fan of apples because of the health benefits they have to offer. Also, as the famous saying goes – An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Homemade apple sauce have a great flavour as compared to the commercially available ones. All you need is a good tasting apples for this recipe or you can combine 2-3 varieties of apples to give a more intense flavour. For your understanding, I would like to mention that 1 medium apple will give you ½ cup of apple sauce. Hence, you can make this recipe as per your requirement. The colour of the sauce depends on the type of the apple used.

I usually make it in bulk and store in glass jars in fridge, it remains good for a week. You can also freeze it and use as and when required for a longer duration, it stays good for almost a month, when frozen.

Adding sugar is optional, as some apples are really sweet and they don’t require any sugar at all. You can flavour the apple sauce with ground cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon zest etc.

You can make use of this apple sauce to make apple juice or use them in a variety of dessert recipes or you can enjoy it as such with a dollop of whipped cream or any ice cream.
