mumbai style tawa pulao is made on a large griddle or tawa and pav bhaji masala is used in making this pulao. since, we generally don't have a big tawa at home, this tawa pulao can be made in kadai itself.


in making mumbai style tawa pulao, cooked rice is tossed with vegetables and spices and garnished with coriander leaves. leftover rice can also be used in making this tawa pulao.

tawa pulao is a delicious and healthy rice recipe as it uses vegetables like tomato, capsicum and green peas. you can also use other vegetables like beans, carrot and potatoes. 

tawa pulao is best enjoyed with simple onion yoghurt raita. it is quick to make and forms an ideal lunch box recipe.

Ingredients 


  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter or oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 small capsicum, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 cup boiled green peas
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons pav bhaji masala
  • 1 tablespoon red chilli paste (see my note below)
  • salt as required
  • 1-2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves for garnishing


Directions for making tawa pulao recipe



1. Heat butter or oil in a kadai and splutter the cumin seeds.

2. Add onions and cook till they become soft. Add ginger  garlic paste and saute till raw smell disappears.

3. Add tomatoes, capsicum and green peas, saute for 2-3 minutes. Slightly mash the vegetables with the help of a masher (this is optional).

4. Add turmeric, pav bhaji masala, red chilli paste and salt. Add 1/4 cup water and cook on low flame for 5 minutes.

5. Add the cooked rice, mix everything well and saute on high flame for 2-3 minutes.

6. Yummy mumbai style tawa pulao is ready, garnish with coriander leaves and serve with yoghurt raita.

Notes:

- You can use variety of vegetables as per your choice like capsicum, green peas, boiled potatoes, beans, carrots, etc.

- You can make the red chilli paste by soaking 5-6 dried chillies in water and grinding it to a paste. Remember to remove the seeds before soaking.
