ribbon pakoda recipe is a south indian crunchy snack recipe made using gram flour, rice flour and some spices. It is kneaded into a dough and deep fried in hot oil.
Ribbon Pakoda also known as Ribbon Murukku is a crunchy South Indian snacks recipe. It is prepared widely during the Indian festival of Diwali.
These pakodas are easy to make just like any other fried pakodas. They require the murukku maker for giving the shape of a ribbon. The recipe can be tweaked as per your liking, you can add any of the ingredients like garlic, ajwain, cumin seeds, turmeric etc. If you want it less spicy, you can omit the red chilli powder completely. Also, you need to fry it on medium high flame or else these pakodas won’t come out crunchy.
These pakodas when stored in an airtight container remains good for a week. So you can make them in bulk and store and enjoy it along with your hot tea for your evening snacks or whenever you crave for something to munch on. Kids will love these pakodas anytime.
• 1 cup gram flour or besan
• 1 cup rice flour
• 1/4 teaspoon hing or asafoetida
• 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder
• 1 tablespoon melted butter
• Salt to taste
• Oil for deep frying
1. Mix all the ingredients together and knead into a soft dough using little water, it should be non-sticky.
2. Grease the murukku maker and fix the ribbon pakoda disc and stuff the dough in it
3. Heat oil and check by adding a small piece of dough. If it rises immediately and doesn’t sink to the bottom, the oil is hot enough for use
4. Press the murukku maker directly over the hot oil in a circular motion. Be careful while doing so
5. Fry on medium high flame till golden on both the sides. Remove and keep on an absorbent paper
6. Repeat the process till all the dough is used up
7. Bring the fried ribbon pakodas to room temperature, break into pieces and store in an airtight container. It remains good for a week
8. Enjoy as your evening snack or give to your kids for munching around
