Bhuna Chicken Recipe

Bhuna chicken recipe is a famous Indian chicken dish cooked in a tomato based gravy with fresh aroma of ginger, garlic and other spices.

Bhuna chicken is a saucy Indian chicken curry recipe which is usually relished along with tandoori roti, naan or butter naan and pulaos and rice.

Bhuna chicken is made using boneless chicken pieces which is added to the bhuna masala and gets cooked in its own juices resulting in a very fragrant and thick sauce. It is a simple recipe.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams boneless chicken
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 medium onions, very finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes chopped
  • 2 teaspoons red chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • salt as required
  • 1 tablespoon cashew nut paste
  • 1 teaspoon kasuri methi or dried fenugreek leaves
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • a pinch of red food colour (optional)

Directions for making bhuna chicken recipe



1. Heat oil in a kadhai and add cardamom, cloves, bay leaf and cumin seeds. Saute for 30 seconds.

2. Add onions and cook till it becomes golden in colour. Add minced ginger, garlic and green chillies. Cook for few seconds.

3. Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt. Cook till the tomatoes are fully mashed up and oil separates. Saute it really well so that it looks like a bhuna paste. You may add a splash of water if required.

4. Add chicken pieces and saute on high flame. Add the cashew nut paste, mix and cook for few minutes.

5. Add 1 1/2 cups of water and bring to boil. Then cover and simmer till the chicken is fully cooked.

6. Add dried fenugreek leaves and a pinch of red food colour if using. Cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes.

7. Bhuna chicken can be served with roti, naan and rice
